Poetry for the Pioneers

Do you enjoy listening to poetry? Utica College is having Danniel Schoonebeek read his work Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the MacFarlane Auditorium in DePerno Hall. The reading will take place on the main campus. DePerno Hall is directly across from the library. Admissions is free.

Schoonebeek’s book, American Barricade, was named one of 2014’s ten standout debuts by Poets & Writers. The Boston Review called it “a groundbreaking first book that stands to influence the aesthetic disposition of its author’s generation.”

His work’s been published in many publications including: The New Yorker, Iowa Review, The Brooklyn Rail, Poetry, and more.

Schoonebeek’s next book, C’est la guerre, will be released by Poor Claudia later this year. C’est la guerre is a travelogue.

School Pride Day

Today’s the first day of Homecoming Weekend.  With all the out-there styles that have been allowed this past week for Spirit Week, today is School Pride Day. Members of the Utica College community are encouraged to wear their UC apparel today.

One way UC is celebrating Homecoming tonight is by having a carnival behind the Strebel Student Center tonight from 6-9:30 p.m.

Don’t despair if you’re unable to make it tonight. The carnival will also be open tomorrow Saturday, Oct. 3 from 4-7 p.m.

Fun fact – today is also National College Radio Day.

Pajama Day

Utica College started off its Homecoming Weekend with Pajama Day, where students got the luxury of wearing their pajamas to school without feeling they’d be judged for wearing those fuzzy SpongeBob pajama bottoms or those onesies you and your three friends wear while together.

Some members of the UC community chose to take part in this special day. Pajama Day is one of the many special wardrobe days the college has planned for Spirit Week.
